Yofin Baroque Ensemble Zurich is composed of musicians who lead or are soloists in internationally renowned ensembles specialized in historically informed performance, such as Il giardino armonico, Kammerorchester Basel, Concerto Köln or La Scintilla. The ensemble cultivates instrumentation where each section is represented by a single instrument, thus allowing transparency of sound, with its richness further emphasized by highlighting individual solo instruments. The ensemble’s programs include lesser-known works by well-known composers as well as their own arrangements. Founded in Zurich in 2010, the ensemble captivates with an infectious joy of making music and refreshing virtuosity.

Stefano Barneschi (Milan, 1970) studied the violin at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan under Carlo De Martin, and he graduated in 1991. In the same year, he joined the Baroque ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, where he has been the concertmaster since 2001. With the ensemble, he has performed at the most prestigious festivals and national and international concert seasons, such as Bach Tage and Berlin Philharmonie, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, Tonhalle in Zurich, Wigmore Hall and Barbican in London, Styriarte in Graz, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Oji Hall in Tokyo, Symphony Hall in Osaka, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Carnegie Hall in New York, Sydney Opera House, Società del Quartetto in Milan, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Santa Cecilia and Nuovo Auditorio in Rome, Teatro La Pergola in Florence, and more. He has collaborated with many prestigious artists including Isabelle Faust, Viktoria Mullova, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Giuliano Carmignola, Christophe Coin, Giovanni Sollima, Cecilia Bartoli, Julia Lezhneva. His collaboration as a concertmaster extends to other ensembles specialized in playing historical instruments, such as Anima Eterna Brugge, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, La Scintilla, I Barocchisti, Il Pomo d’Oro, La Divina Armonia, Kammerorchester Basel, and others. He has recorded for labels like Teldec, Naïve, Decca, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Winter & Winter, Passacaille, Amadeus, Alpha, and many other recording companies. He plays a violin made by Giacinta Santagiuliana in 1830.
