The ensemble Concerto Scirocco, founded in 2009, is dedicated to historically informed performance practice. Its name, “scirocco,” the stormy hot southern wind, vividly alludes to the enveloping, warm sound of cornets, recorders, and dulcians, the core instruments it comprises. Under the leadership of Giulia Genini, the members of the ensemble share a passion for Renaissance and Baroque music, striving to combine personal creativity with an understanding of historical performance practices. The ensemble regularly performs at international festivals such as Midi Musique Basel, Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Festival Internacional de Musica de Gaia, Brunnenthaler Konzertsommer, LAC Lugano Arte Cultura Concert Hall, Les Concerts de l’ADMA in Fribourg, Festival di Musica Antica in Magnano, Italy, Fabulous Fringe Festival in Utrecht, Holland, Festival Alte Musik Live in Berlin, Festival Freunde Alter Musik Basel, La Tribune des Jeunes Musiciens in Geneva, Les Concerts de Romainmôtier, Festival AMIA Alsace, Festival La Folia Rougemont, Label Suisse Festival in Lausanne, Les Concerts au Château de l’Hermitage in Condé-sur-l’Éscaut, Ceresio Estate Festival in Lugano, Festival Les Riches Heures de Valère in Sion, Festtage Alte Musik Basel, CaronAntica Festival, Festival I Concerti delle Camelie in Locarno, Altstadt Serenaden Basel, Festival Misteria Paschalia in Krakow, Kammermusik Konzerte Theater Bern, Concerti d’Organo Venezia, Museo San Colombano Bologna Collezione Tagliavini, Festival Murten Classics, Domkonzerte Arlesheim, Festival d’Art Sacrée in Sion, Les Concerts Bach de Lutry, Festival Cantar di Pietre Ticino, Davos Festival Young Artists in Concert, Musiksommer am Zürichsee. The Swiss-Italian musician Giulia Genini graduated in recorder, historical bassoon, and dulcian from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. During her studies, she founded her own ensemble, Concerto Scirocco, with which she records and develops a successful concert career, performing at significant festivals and stages throughout Europe, focusing on the rediscovery of 16th and 17th-century instrumental repertoire. In addition to the mentioned instruments, Giulia Genini also plays the classical and romantic bassoon, enabling her to perform a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to Romanticism. She collaborates with ensembles such as D. Fasolis’ I Barocchisti, G. Antonini’s Giardino Armonico, O. Dantone’s Accademia Bizantina, A. Marcon’s Venice Baroque Orchestra, and many others. She is a professor of historical bassoon at the Haute École de Musique de Genève and the artistic director of the Festival di Musica Antica CaronAntica.
