About the performer:
Ensemble NAYA is a collection of outstanding, world-class musicians, from multi-cultural backgrounds, who together share their passion for exploring and performing Western classical music, as well as the music of many other cultures from around the world. The group was established following an exciting and successful musical partnership at the Gothenburg Opera in Sweden in 2008. Today, the group of eight musicians dedicate their musical cooperations towards creating bridges between those of different cultures and in bringing people together, regardless of their faith or religion. Ensemble NAYA is already forging exciting collaborations with some of today’s leading music specialists, such as Ensemble Barrocade, whose collaboration resulted in their joint album Latino Ladino. This rapidly became a best seller, receiving several awards and resulting in further invitations to perform together on major international stages.
Yaniv d’Or’s unique countertenor voice has made him one of the rising stars of the modern international music scene. British-Israeli d'Or studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, receiving the International Vocal Art Institution Prize and the Gottesman Award. His operatic repertoire includes Handel’s Gulio Caesar, Ptolomey, Rinaldo, Medoro (Orlando), Jehoyakim (Susannah), Aresemennes (Xerxes), Gluck’s Orfeo, Cavalli’s Orion, Delfa (Giasone), Purcell’s Sorceres and spirit (Dido and Aneas), Britten’s Oberon (Mid Summer Night’s Dream), Voice of Apollo (Death in Venice), Vivaldi’s Melindo (La verita in Cimento) and most recently Salomone Rossi in The siblings of Mantua - a unique production of Drottningholm Slottsteater Stockholm featuring Salomone Rossi, Claudio Monteverdi, traditional sephardi ladino and d’Or’s compositions. In concert he performs Lieder, Oratorio and traditional repertoire at venues such as Mariinsky Theatre Saint Petersburg, Wigmore Hall, Barbican Centre, Royal Festival and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, York Minster Cathedral, Oslo Opera House, AMUZ Antwerp, Palau de la Musica Barcelona, Dome des Invalides and Philharmonie de Paris. Recently performed a newly constructed piece at the Banqueting House London in the presence of HM the Queen.
A prolific recording artist, Yaniv d’Or is the recipient of the Gramophone Award for his album Liquefacta Est… with Ensemble NAYA on Naxos label and BBC Magazine album choice for his album Latino-Ladino also on Naxos label.
