VOCAL NONET DONUM Donum was founded in 2010 in Varaždin, on the iniciative of Sofija Cingula, who gathered young, educated musicians from St. Nicholas's Church. Sofija Cingula was the first leader of vocal group, after whom (in 2013) Višlav Jaklin, organist of the Varaždin Cathedral, took her place. The group performed renowned concerts in Croatia, Slovenia and Austria, out of which the most significant was the one in 2014, when 14 of them, under the name Chamber choir Donum, performed Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. In original lineup, there were eight of them; from this year nine musicians are gathered in Donum, all of whom are the best singers from Varaždin.
Višeslav Jaklin, leadership
Organist from Varaždin, Višeslav Jaklin, graduated the organ, improvisation and conducting at the study of church music in Graz, and he won his master´s degree in the concert organ orientation at the Vienna University in the class of Michael Radulescu. He also attended private classes in the organ and improvisation in Weimar and Paris. He continued enhancing at international master seminars for the organ that were led by renowned experts. Jaklin is winner of first prizes at international competitions in Switzerland and Austria. From 2001 to 2008, he was organist of the Franciscan Church in Graz and in the year 2008 he was made organist of the Varaždin Cathedral.
As soloist and chamber musician Jaklin regularly appears in Croatia and other European countries as well as Israel. He also co-operates with numerous ensembles and orchestras. Jaklin is member of the Croatian Association of Music Artists, Croatian Association of Church Artists and Slovenian Organ Society. In 2015, he was named a Commissioner of organ conservation for Varaždin Perish.
Darko Pleli, organ
Darko Pleli was born in 1981 in Zagreb. First piano lectures he takes in the age of five. Since Pleli was accelerated during elementary and music school, he graduated from MS “Blagoje Bersa” and XV Gymnasium in 1998. Later he studied at the Institute for Church Music at Catholic Faculty of Theology in Zagreb (organ in the class of Domagoj Jugović, choral conducting in the class of Irene Kamenarović) and finished in 2005. Between 2003 and 2005, he improves his skills at studies of chuch music at Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wiena (organ in the class of Roman Summereder, choral conducting in the class of Erwin Ortner and Ingrun Fussenegger). From 2005 to 2012, he studies organ – concert course at the same universary in the class of Roman Summereder and gets the title Magister Artium. During studying in Zagreb, he practices a lot as the organist in St Nichola's Tavilić in Kustošija. During studying in Wiena, he leads ten different choirs and works as the organist in Stift Heiligenkreuz, Evangelische Pfarrgemeinde Wien – Liesing and elsewhere. From 2011, he is the leader of Medizinischer Universität Wien Choir, and from 2013 the organist in Benediktinerabtei „Unserer Lieben Frau zu den Schotten“.
