The Responsorium ensemble is dedicated to the research and interpretation of the vocal and instrumental repertoire of the seventeenth century with a special focus on the achievements of the older Croatian musical heritage. It works in accordance with the principles of historically based early music performance practice, using replicas of authentic instruments and respecting scientifically based stylistic guidelines. In search of authentic sounds, the ensemble has realized a number of successful projects, including several contemporary premieres of works by Croatian baroque composers. The fruit of the ensemble’s intense musicological activity is the sound carrier Tomaso Cecchino: Madrigali et canzonette a tre voci 1617 (Croatia Records, 2017), which was released on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the collection’s printing. The Responsorium ensemble regularly collaborates with world-renowned early music performers and happily shares its commitment with its loyal audience, performing at numerous festivals in the homeland (Varaždin Baroque Evenings; Musical Evenings in St. Donat; Concerts in Euphrasian; Dvigrad Festival; and BaRoMus Austria, Germany, Denmark, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia). The ensemble is a two-time recipient of the Ivan Lukačić Award from the jury of the Varaždin Baroque Evenings for its scholarly work and the ensemble’s performance achievements. The ensemble was awarded at the 49th Varaždin Baroque Evenings in 2019 for the project Tomaso Cecchino: Psalms, Missa et Alia Cantica, and at the 52nd Varaždin Baroque Evenings in 2022 for the project Sancta Maria, Mater Ecclesiae – Marian Motets by Hieronymus Talon, a native of Pula.
