Orfeo Futuro is an ensemble bringing together musicians with extensive international experience in historically informed performance. It is dedicated to creating innovative and artistically ambitious projects, with a particular focus on programmes that combine early and contemporary music. Since 2010, the ensemble has given hundreds of concerts and made numerous recordings, frequently collaborating with other artists and ensembles. In 2019, Orfeo Futuro created De L'Infinito, a project combining the music of Claudio Monteverdi with that of the contemporary Italian composer Gianvincenzo Cresta (1968), in collaboration with the distinguished vocal ensemble Spirito di Lione under the direction of Nicole Corti. The project premiered at the Venice Music Biennale before touring Italy and France. In 2021, again in collaboration with Spirito di Lione, the ensemble recorded Monteverdi's Missa in illo tempore for the Digressione Music label. The chamber ensemble of Orfeo Futuro is directed by Pierfrancesco Borrelli and performs regularly at leading national and international festivals dedicated to early music.
Renowned for her exceptional musicality and wide-ranging repertoire, Sara Mingardo is regarded as one of the most distinguished mezzo-sopranos of our time. Among the defining chapters of her artistic career is her highly fruitful collaboration with Claudio Abbado. She appears regularly at the world's leading opera houses and concert halls under the baton of conductors including Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, Ottavio Dantone, Ivor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Antonio Pappano, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Emmanuelle Haïm, Marc Minkowski, Riccardo Muti, Sir Roger Norrington, Christophe Rousset, Jordi Savall, Kent Nagano, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Daniele Gatti, François-Xavier Roth, and many others. She has collaborated with leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the New York Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Concerto Italiano, Les Talens Lyriques, and the Academia Montis Regalis. Her concert repertoire ranges from Pergolesi and Bach to Brahms, Dvořák, Mahler and Respighi. On the operatic stage, she has performed roles in works by Gluck, Monteverdi, Handel, Vivaldi, Rossini, Verdi, Cavalli, Mozart, Donizetti, Schumann and Berlioz. Mingardo studied at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in her native Venice under the tenor Franco Ghitti. The recipient of numerous national and international awards, she gained artistic recognition after winning the Toti Dal Monte Competition in Treviso, where she made her debut in the title role of Rossini's La Cenerentola. In 2001, she received two Grammy Awards for the live recording of Berlioz's Les Troyens with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis, and in 2009 she was honoured with the prestigious Abbiati Prize by the Italian Music Critics' Association.
