The ensemble Camerata Garestin brings together leading Croatian interpreters of 17th and 18th-century music. It was founded in 2008 at the initiative of cellist Krešimir Lazar from Varaždin, with co-founders soprano Ivana Lazar, flutist Dani Bošnjak, and harpsichordist and organist Krešimir Has, musicians whose rich experiences have long contributed to the cultural and artistic life of the Republic of Croatia. The fundamental program guideline of the ensemble is thematically designed concert projects that present outstanding works of European and Croatian masters from the high Renaissance to the early classical style. With special attention, the ensemble nurtures Croatian musical heritage, focusing on the works of Ivan Lukačić, Vinko Jelić, Gabriel Puliti, Tomas Cecchini, and Ivan Šibenčanin. This contribution by the ensemble has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, which supports it significantly, as well as through numerous laudatory reviews. In addition to performances in Croatia, the ensemble has achieved a series of international appearances in Sweden, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, with notable highlights including performances at the prestigious international SEVIQC Brežice baroque music festival, the Croatian Music Festival in Vienna (with a concert held in the famous Hofburg Chapel), and in Voorschoten and The Hague, where Camerata Garestin was the first Croatian early music ensemble to be professionally engaged in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. As part of the 47th Varaždin Baroque Evenings, the ensemble was awarded the Jurica Murai Award, and in 2018, they recorded the album Vulnerasti cor meum featuring works by Croatian early baroque masters.

Nina Tarandek began her musical education at the Music School in Varaždin, where she studied music theory and solo singing under Darija Hreljanović. She completed her opera studies at the Music and Arts Private University (MUK) in Vienna in the class of Julia Conwell and Ute Schwabe, and pursued further studies in Lied and oratorio with renowned soprano Birgid Steinberger and pianist Carolyn Hague. She was awarded first prize at the Fidelio Competition in Vienna in 2006, and in 2018 was nominated for “Singer of the Year” by the German magazine Opernwelt. Until 2020, she was a member of the Frankfurt Opera ensemble, where she successfully performed a wide range of roles. She has appeared as a guest artist in numerous European and international opera houses, including Semperoper Dresden, Theater an der Wien, Volksoper Wien, Theater Freiburg, Vilnius City Opera, and Teatro Teresa Carreño in Caracas with the Simón Bolívar Orchestra. A particular highlight of her career was the title role of La Malaspina in Luci mie traditrici by Salvatore Sciarrino, performed at the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano. Recently, she performed in Così fan tutte at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and in Parsifal at Frankfurt Opera, as well as at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl in Die Walküre, L’Amico Fritz, and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. She has also sung at renowned festivals such as Oper im Steinbruch, MITO Settembre Musica, and Ultraschall Berlin. As a concert soloist, she has collaborated with numerous orchestras, including the hr-Sinfonieorchester, BR-Sinfonieorchester, Wiener Philharmoniker, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Zagreb Philharmonic. She is especially noted for her interpretations of oratorio repertoire and Lied, having performed at concert venues and festivals across Europe and the Middle East.
